Kindness Score
A 0–100 rating that helps B2B buyers compare products across the KindNesta catalogue with clearer evidence — informed by European green-claim, packaging, chemical, and product-passport expectations. Scores are KindNesta’s internal rating and stayprovisional until evidence is verified.
What the score is (and is not)
The Kindness Score is KindNesta’s internal comparison tool. It is not a third-party life-cycle assessment, PEF study, or official EU ecolabel. We show it so buyers can see how much verifiable evidence sits behind a product story.
Why Europe shapes the rules
- EmpCo (Directive 2024/825) — from 27 Sep 2026, generic “eco/green/sustainable” claims and many self-made sustainability labels face strict limits.
- PPWR (EU 2025/40) — packaging recyclability, recycled content, and waste prevention expectations.
- REACH — chemical safety and substances of very high concern.
- ESPR / Digital Product Passport — growing demand for composition, origin, and circularity data (textiles are a priority).
How scoring works
- Gate checks (A1–A7) — claim hygiene, REACH baseline, evidence age, trade-off honesty. Any Fail caps the score at 49 and blocks weak claims.
- Evidence pillars (B1–B6) — chemicals, material %, certifications, circularity, shipped packaging, traceability.
- KindNesta review — we confirm documents before treating a score as verified.
Do products need certificates to appear here?
To be listed: basic product data and honest descriptions. Chemical compliance expectations still apply for EU-bound goods.
To make green claims or earn Strong scores: yes — claim-specific third-party proof. Typical schemes:
- GRS / RCS — recycled content chain of custody
- GOTS — organic textiles
- FSC / PEFC — responsible paper / forest fibre
- OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — harmful substance testing for textiles
- EU Ecolabel / Blue Angel — broader “excellent performance” labels
What buyers should check on a product page
- Score band + notes (why the number is what it is)
- Specific bullets (materials, certifications named)
- Product details table (materials, dimensions, browse node)
- Variant options under the same parent product
Provisional scores
Some catalogue scores began from supplier price-list text before full evidence packs arrived. Treat those as provisional until certificates, BOM %, and REACH statements are verified against our checklist.
